SOCIALS AND MEETINGS "Western Springs Women's Movement. —A large quantity of goods for inclusion in soldiers' parcels was handed to the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Association by this organisation as tho result of a social evening held recently. Games and competitions were held during .the evening and several enjoyable items were given. Hillsborough Croquet Club. —At the annual meeting of this club, Mrs. E. Dalbeth was elected president, Mrs. J. Brand secretary, and Mrs. W. Mosley treasurer. St. Andrew's Ladies' Auxiliary.— The speaker at a recent meeting of the auxiliary was the Rev. Bower Black, who described his travels in Scotland. An appeal for gifts of shortbread made up in tins and for socks and scarves for soldiers' comforts was issued by the president, Mrs. J. K. Black. Society of Musicians. —A page from the music of Queen Victoria's reign was presented by the vocal and instrumental circles of the Society of Musicians. Madame Aileen Johns presided. Overseas Teachers' Club.—Exchange teachers from Canada, Australia and England were entertained by the Auckland Overseas Teachers' Club recently at a social evening in the Teachers' Institute rooms. The president, Mr. E. E. Snell, welcomed the visitors. Philistine Club: —The fortnightly "revel" of the club was held on Saturday night, the chairman being Mr. L. Piper. Items were given by Mrs. X. Pees, Mrs. Brown Morris, Mr. Arthur Ripley, Mr. Ernest Thomas, Mr. H. McD." Vincent, Mr. Alan Pow and the Apollo Quartette. Howick Croquet Club. —The following officers wore elected at the annual meeting:—President, Mrs. F. Roberts; secretary, Mrs. J. Turnbull; treasurer, Mrs. Scott.
