SALE OF FISH

WHITEBAIT AND OYSTERS LICENSING CONDITIONS [BT TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, "Wednesday Amending licensing notices issued under tho Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936, relating to the sale of whitebait and dredge oysters v were the subject of comment to-day by the acting-Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. Wilson. He explained that the effect of the notice m connection with whitebait was that persons would not now require to be licensed to sell it, either wholesale or retail. "The two licensed industries affected are fish wholesalers and fish retailers, and in both cases the definition of fish has been amended so as to include Foveaux Strait or dredge oysters within the licensed industries, and to exclude whitebait," Mr. Wilson said. He made it clear that dredge oysters could not be sold wholesale without the authority of the Bureau of Industry. Existing fish wholesalers' licences did not extend to the wholesale sale of dredge ovsters, so that all persons wishing to sell them wholesale must apply immediately to the Bureau of Industry. In the retail industry the position was different, however, and present holders of fish retailers' licences might soli oysters subject to the existing conditions of their licences without further reference to the bureau.

The Auckland rock oysters, which are under the control of the Marine Department, are not involved at all in the amending notices.
