INADEQUATE DEFENCE
Sir, —"Your article in Tuesday's Herald is timely and inspiring. Tho smug complacency of Mr. Eraser's Sunday evening speech was enough to make tho blood of any patriotic New Zcalander or Scot boil with indignation. One cannot but wonder if tho platitudes voiced are his own honest convictions or merely what he is constrained to Say as tho mouthpiece of the Federation of Labour. Mr. De La Mare criticises Mr. Allan Moody's commendable action regarding the employment of aliens. Recent events have clearly shown that, in a time of war, German and other aliens are a menace in any country. If Mr. Do La Marc had bad a close-up experience of tho treachery of such gentry and had been betrayed by men whom lie had regarded as friends and loyal citizens, he might not take_ such an academic view of tho situation. N.Z. Scot.
