BANK DIRECTOR RETIRES
SIR THOMAS BUCKLAND The directors of the Bank of New South Wales entertained Sir Thomas Buckland in Sydney last week on the occasion of his retirement. He has been associated with the bank sinco 1869. Ho became a director in 1909, and he was president from 1922 until 1927.
Sir Thomas, who will be 92 in August, recently gave a bomber, costing £10,500, to the Commonwealth Government, and in 1936 he gave £IOO,OOO for the erection and endowment of the Buckland Convalescent Home at Springwood. He has made many other gifts for patriotic and philanthropic purposes. He is chairman of Pitt, Son and Badgery, Limited, and a director of the Permanent Trustee Company, and United Insurance Company, and will not resign from these directorships at present.
