SHORTAGE OF WIRE
POSITION NOT RELIEVED "It is evident that the shortage of fencing wire will continue, but ail efforts will be made to do what is possible to ease the situation," stated the Director of Primary. Production, Mr. R. B. Tennent, in a letter received by the Auckland District Council of Primary Production yesterday. Mr. Tennent said the shortage had been 'aggravated by the ■ coal strike in Australia, which was tlio source of most of the Dominion's supplies. Recently the Government had taken steps to land a shipment from Canada and a small quantity of barb wire was procured from Japan. The total from the two countries amounted to only 1300 tons, and some of it would be required for industrial purposes, such as nail-making.
