RURAL HOUSING ACT
GREATER USE URGED Increased use of the Rural Housing Act' to assist in the solution of the problem of housing for farm workers was advocated by the Director of Primary Production, Mr. R. B. Tennent, in a letter received by the Auckland District Council of Primary Production yesterday. He said the Act went a long way toward assisting farmers, to carry out this work, but it was apparent that the facilities were being made use of to the extent which they should. If local authorities entered enthusiastically into the scheme headway would bo made in retaining married workers on farms. Many councils had adopted an extremely diffident attitude. On the other hand, the enthusiasm displayed in a few counties, such as Raglan, which was providing £50,000 for rural housing, was most gratifying. The council decided to obtain informatics from local .bodies in the Auckland district as to their attitude toward'the scheme and the response they h.d received. With this information available, the possibilities of advancing the work will again be considered. '
