An intense but almost . stationary anti-cyclone covers southern Australia. Moderate to strong southerly winds, reaching gale force on parts of the east coast. Seas . moderate in the Bay of Plenty and on the West Coast of the South Island; otherwise rough. Weather fair in Westland. Elsewhere changeable, with showers in most districts, but more particularly in Gisborno area and the far north and south. Temperatures very cold, With some further snow on the higher levels. Frosts in sheltered localities.
