MOTOR-CAR THEFTS

ENGINEDRIVER CONVICTED The re-trial of Corkill, eiiginedriver, aged 45 (Mr. Sullivan), on two charges of theft of motor-cars was hold in the Supremo Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Johnston. Mr. N. I. Smith, who conducted the prosecution, said one of the cars had been stolen from a private garage at Napier on August 29, and the other from an Auckland street on October 18. The question for the jury, he said, was whether they could accept accused's explanation of how he came by these cars. Accused, in evidence, said he had got the cars from a man whom he understood to be a motor salesman. Accused was found guilty on both counts. He was remanded for sentence.
