THE LEAGUE CODE
SUCCESSFUL OPENING PLAYERS COMPLIMENTED THREE SELECTORS APPOINTED Reference to the neat appearance of tlie teams and the fine standard of play was made by the deputy-chairman, Mr. E. J. Phelan, when commenting on the successful opening of the 1940 season at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby League. Mr. Phelan said that indications were that the code would experience a very successful season. The Ponsonby club successfully, challenged (he claim of another club to register J. A. Flower, a former New South Wales player. The Ponsonby club pointed out that, although Flower did not play last season, # he was officially registered by Ponsonby, in June. 1930, and, according to the rules, "was stiu a member of that club. Mr. Phelan said it would bo necessary for any club to obtain a transfer from Ponsonby before Flower could play in active competition. Kefcrcnce was made to the control of tne injured players' fund, and tho Senior Clubs Officers' Association reported that Messrs. tr. Hunt and P. T. McAneny had been appointed trustees. Messrs. G. Grey Campbell and I. Culpan were appointed to represent tho Auckland League on the committee. Tho ballot for positions as Auckland representative selectors resulted in Messrs. A. McGregor, H. Brisbane and E. W. Cloke being appointed. There were four nominations. Mr. T. Davis gave notice, of his intention to move that tho rule dealing with the appointment of selectors be altered to allow for the nomination of members of affiliated clubs other than actual playing members. Mr. Davis stated that under the present rule club officers were not eligible for nomination. The lack of co-operation by senior players in the use of the hot showers at Carlaw Park last Saturday was strongly condemned by several delegates, who stated that the taps had been left running by. the curtainraiser teams and the teams in the later games had had to go without hot baths. It was decided to refer tho matter . to the groundsman with a view to securing some satisfactory arrangement. The following applications for senior membership were approved:—W. Maitaira, E.
