SERVICES RECOGNISED

RETIRING BANK MANAGER MR. T. H. EASDOWN HONOURED Business men of Auckland, headed by Sir Ernest Davis, gathered yesterday afternoon in the palm lounge of the Hotel Cargen to express toward Mr. T. H.; Easdown, who recently retired from his post as manager of the Auckland branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, their high regard for him as friend and adviser. Sir Ernest, on behalf of the business community, handed him a gold wristlet watch and a substantial cheque. Sir Ernest said that for 43 years—from 1897 to 1940 —Mr. Easdown had served the bank and the commercial interests of /the city. Bv his unfailing courtesy and considerate treatment, he had earned the goodwill, respect and personal esteem of all sections, and he •always had given the benefit of his •wide. experience and sound'judgment., This co-operation had been of incalculable advantage to many business men and was deeply appreciated. It was hoped that in his retirement, he and Mrs. Easdown would long be spared to enjoy health and happiness. Mr. J. B. Donald and Mr. W. Goodfellow made brief speeches, in which they testified to the out:.landing service Mr. Easdown had g.ven to the commercial section of Auckland, and to his capacity for making enduring friendships.
