PLEA TO POWERS PUPPET GOVERNMENT JAPAN TJEGES RECOGNITION f By Toleprraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 1, 11.20 p.m.) LONDON, April 1 The Japanese Embassy has issued a statement emphasising the Japanese Government's support of the ' new Central Government in China under Wang Ching-wei, and the hope that the Powers will forthwith contribute toward the establishment of peace in East Asia. The statement adds that Japan has no intention of excluding such peaceful economic activities of third Powers ns will conform with the new situation. On the contrary, she desires to cooperate witli these Powers and share " with them the benefits of international amity. "Renascent China has started on the , road to progress," says the statement, "but Japan will not lay down her arms until the remaining pro-Communist and 'anti-Japanese forces awaken from their illusory dreams." Commenting on Mr. Cordell Hull's announcement that America would continue to .recognise Marsha] Chiang Kaishek's Government, the Foreign Minister, Mr. Arita, said the American policy of refusing to recognise political changes secured by force was frequently carried out in a narrow, legalistic manner. He added that' America's non-recognition would not influence Japan's lull support of tho Nanking regime. The Chin6se Foreign Minister, Mr. ' .Wang Chung-wui, said Mr. Hull's statement should make the Japanese militarists realise the futility of carrying out their plans to dominate Asia and the Pacific Ocean. He added that Wang Ching-wei was a puppet who had earned the contempt of the Chinese people.
