MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH
Sir, —As a payer of heavy rates I protest at the proposal of the Mount Eden Borough Council to get rid of £2OOO in building flash offices near the Council Chambers in Valley Road. This building is in the wrong place. More money was taken in four hours at tho Dominion' l?oad temporary receiving depot at rate-paying time than in four months at Valley Road. The council stuff is not as large as 20 years ago, as all the major engineering works arc finished. The borough's valuation is completed for another three years, so no office space is wanted in this connection. This is war time, the time for economy and sacrifice, not for ultra expensive building. Thanks to His Worship the Mayor, Mr. Mills, and Councillors Cowan, Hartnoll and Harrop for their opposition to this scheme and for their safe and conservative policy of financial stability. I move the motion be Recinded.
