QUESTION OF BAIL
MAN'S NON-APPEAfiANCE His intention to make formnl application for estreating of bail was given by Senior-Sergeant Calwell in the Police Court yesterday when an application for a remand was made on behalf of a painter, Cfecil William Hutchinson, aged 32 (Mr. Aekins), who was charged with being in a state of intoxication in charge of a motor in Ponsonby -Road. , When Mr Aekins asked for-a remand Mr. tjalwell said accused was allowed bail" by the police when arrested and was to appear in court on Saturday morning. When _he did not make an appearance justices of the peace issued a warrant for his arrest. Mr. Calwell said he would make formal application for the recognisance to be estreated: He had no objection to a remand, but asked for increased bail. Mr. Aekins said accused was ill on Saturday and when arrested that night was in bed. Mr. J. Morling, S.M., allowed bail of £SO and ordered accused to report daily to the police. A remand to next Monday was granted.
