JAPAN PORTUGAL CESSION OF ISLANDS CLOSING OF CUSTOMS (Received Marcli 31, 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 30 It is unofficially stated that Japan has served on the Portuguese a series of demands, says the Hongkong correspondent of tho New York Times. They include the cession of the islands of Wanchai and Lappa, near Macao, and the closing of the Chinese Customs on Portuguese territory, on which they also seek facilities to search for antiJapanese elements. « SUPPLIES FOR NAZIS SHIPS ABOUT TO LEAVE CASH PAYMENTS MADE (Received March 31, 5.5 p.m.) BATAVIA, March 30 The German steamers No rd in ark (7750 tons), Hendtburg and Vogtland are preparing to leave Batavia for Vladivostok. Fourteen other German vessels at other Indies ports, including the Menado and the Macassar, are loading copra, coal and food, which have been paid for in cash. Among the other German ships which are preparing to leave for Vladivostok, whence their cargoes would be forwarded by the Siberian railway to Germany, are the Cassel. the Essen and the Xaumburg, in Sourabava. and the Soncck, loaded with rubber, in Padang. All have been painted grey and the names obliterated. Extra crews are being engaged.
