Barometers are rising rapidly over south-eastern Australia. " Winds.—Light and variable from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay northward; J< " elsewhere north-westerly predominating and becoming strong at times, with gales in exposed positions. A . south-westerly' change commencing in the far-south alter about 24 hours.. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Becoming rough south of Farewell Spit about Cook and. Foveaux Straits, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light variable winds and slight to ■ moderate seas in the central aud northern portions; strong north-went to west winds in the southern portion, changing liiter to south-west, with rough seas. Weather,—Unsettled in western ard Southern districts of the South Island, with rain at times. Elsewhere mainly fair to fine, but scattered rain extending later to Wellington and Taranaki, and showers' accompanying the southwesterly change in Canterbury.
