RACING ON SATURDAY AUOKLAND CLUB'S CONTEST WALLACE WINS HOC AN .CUP Tliroo rowing clubs, Auckland, Waitemafa and St. George's, held races at tho Tamnki Drivo courses lust Saturday. Sovernl crews from the Jubilee Club for blind oarsmen wero on the water and tho Sacred Heart College eight were out training. KEENLY-CONTESTED RACES MRS. GEORGE HOGAN AS JUDGE With five crows Auckland held its annual competition for tho George Hogan Memorial Cup. Tho standard of rowing was very good and tho races wero keenly contested. Mrs. George Hogan and Master George Hogan, son of tho late Mr. Georgo Hogan, who was president of tho club for many years, judged tho races. Mr. G. Barrett was startor. Crows In the first heat wero:—E. Richardson, M. Fostor, S'. Andorson. J. Guinoven, K. Rlckards (cox); H. B'. Smith, W. McGregor, C. Mc-ncur, .T. O'Sullivan, B. McNamara (cox); L. Wallace, G. Hewlett, K. Webber, K. King, L. McNamara (cox). Wallaco was first out and soon had three-quarters of a length lead- from Smith, Richardson having dropped back. Smith challenged strongly from tho black buoy, but, Wallace had his crew going nicely and won by one length from Snjlth, Richardson being three lengths away. Second Heat.—B. Sitnmondu, C. Brierley, G. Oxsprlng, K. Rickards, L. McNamara (cox); 0. Cossey, M. Holland, E. Goodwin.

Cossey forced ahead at tho reef to win by 0110 and a-half lengths/ The final was a groat raco between Cossey and Wallace. Both wero good crowß and,, although Cossey jumped out at tho start. Wallaco soon drew level. There was nothing between tho crows to tho gap. Wallace then took a slight load, but Cossey was level again at tho buoy. Then Wallace went slightly ahead to win by a canvas. WAIT TROPHIES TO MIKKELSON Tho Waitcmata Boating Club held its Wait Trophies pair-oar (rials. Mr. James Wait, an old niember of tho club, is now 81 years of age, but ho was present to witness tho annual contest. Ho ciimo from Hamilton to judgu tho races. Sight crows were entered and handicaps given. Tho final between Mikkelson and Jones was a g'ooil race. Mikkelson, off scratch, caught, up at tho thrcn-quartors distance ami from thero tlicy raced on terms, Mikkelson winning by half a canvas. SCOTT MEMORIAL CUP Three crows competed in tho raco for tho Oliver Scott Memorial Cup, a St. George's Club trophy. Tho raco start'od off tho dinghy tockors and finished at the Akaranu boatshed. Tho crows were: —11. Tong, E. Montis, V. Sandors, G. Biss; E. Piggln, K. Gordon, C. Mackonzlo, P. Monscies; R. Slieor, B. Howitt, M. Boyd, M. Mackonzio. From a flat start Tong took tho lead, but tho other crews drow lovol and raced together to the brldgo. Piggln mado tho best crossing at tho rip and led from Spoor, witti Tong last, Specr closed up on Piggin to half a length. Piggln staved off the challenge and won by this distance from Spocr, who finished two lengths ahead of Tong. RACES POSTPONED

Tho West End Club postponed its races out of respect to the memory of tho Bt. Hon. M. J. Savago, who for many years was a vice-president of tho club. Tho Auckland Club also postponed races that would havo been rowed yesterday.
