Cropper Plate on tlio concluding 'day of the Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting at Hand wick yesterday, Ajax carried his stake earnings to £38,025. which is only £37 10s behind those of his great sire, Heroic. There was a provision in the will of his late partowner, Mr. K. L. Baillieu, that Ajax should be. sold when his racing career was finished and it was arranged that lie should be sold next month. However, his present owners are inclined to race him for another season, as he is still very (it and a. favourite with the racing public. Ajax will he spelled for a few months. The New Zealand-bred Mosaic surprised by defeating Maikai in the A.J.C. Plate. Ho finished with great dash, but showed signs of lameness after pulling up. Royal Chief finished gamely for third. The course was in good order, bat the heat was very trying for public and horses. The attendance for the meeting was much below that of last year, but the totalisator figures at £15)0,503 were only £2OOO lower than for tho four days of 1030.
