FIRE-ESCAPES NEEDED
"It is just a death-trap; no girl could get out of the college if there were a fire." said Mrs. Knox Gilmer at a meeting of the Wellington Colleges Board of Governors, referring to the lack of fire-escapes at Wellington Girls' (College. Mrs. Gilmer said the responsible employee had been asked and asked to erect firo-eseapos, and had been instructed to have the work completed by the end of the Christmas holidays. But the school was now open and nothing had been done. "I am going to wash my hands of the responsibility," she said. It was decided to ask the employee for a written explanation, and to instruct him to proceed with the work immediately.
