EVE OF RETIREMENT

NEW ZEALAND OFFICIAL LONDON, March 28 It is announced that Mr. F. T. Sandford, official secretary to the Now Zealand High Commissioner since 1932, ■will retire on Sunday. He will be succeeded by Dr. R. M. Campbell, the Commissioner's economic adviser. Mr. Sandford, who has been for 42 years a civil servant, arrived in London in 1922 as immigration officer. The staff of New Zealand House will bid him farewell to-morrow, when he will be presented with a writing desk. Mr. Sandford will remain in England.

Dr. Richard M. Campbell, formerly of Wellington, joined the staff of the High Commissioner in London as economic adviser several years ago. He took his LL.B. degree at Victoria College in .1923, and his M.A. in 1926. After a year as one of tho secretaries to .Mr. J. G. Coates he went to England and was awarded a doctorate by tho University of London for a thesis in criticism of Imperial preference. He rejoined the Prime Minister's staff as secretary and adviser in economics, and in 1932 attended the Ottawa Conference
