MANGERE SCHOOL

new swimming pool Erected to mark the 80th anniversary of tlie Mangero Central School, a swimming pool, presented by the executive of a recent reunion of old pupils, was opened this week by Mr. b. W. House, a member of the Manukau County Council. Built at a cost of £6O the pool is 35ft. long, 14ft. wide and the depth varies from 3ft. to 4in. 6in. Parents, friends and old scholars were welcomed by the chairman of the reunion executive, Mr. it. Kirkbride, and other speakers were Mr. A. E. Traves, a member of the Manukau County Council, Mr. A. T. Dow, organiser of the reunion celebrations, Mr. J. S. Montgomerie, executive member, and Mr. W. Scott, honorary treasurer. A demonstration of swimming and lifesaving methods was given by the children under the supervision of the head teacher, Miss Newton.
