CONTROL OF SPORT RECOMMENDATIONS REJECTED Various recommendations for improving the conduct of swimming in Auckland, submitted by ttic Eastern Suburb* Amateur Swimming Club, were rejected by the Auckland Centre of tin New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night. In consequence of <v statement by Dr. T. IT. Pettit, explaining the reasons for tho d : si)iialificatiori of (be Auckland swimmer. Miss M. Leydon, from the 110 yards ladies' event at the national championship recently, a resolution was adopted expressing confidence iu tne centre's management, committee and its iian'Ming of the matter of Miss Leydon's late nomination. Dr. Pettit stated that Miss I .evi'on. who had not competed in Auckland for nearly two years, had not entered for the event until February S, three days after nominal ions had closed, and only two days before the race. The Wellington Centre had been informed on Miss I-eydon's behalf that st.e had requested the Auckland Centre on Februirs •"> to send forward her nomination. T ie New Zealand Council had allowed her to swim under protest, and tho Auckland Centre subsequently declined to accept the responsibility of nominating: her, with the result that she was disqualified by the referee, Mr. W. A. Jenkins, of Ota so. It was emphasised by Dr. Pettit that her disqualification did not affect the result of the competition for the, Yaldhurst Shield, won by Ota go. MOUNT EDEN CARNIVAL Fortv members of the Wbangarei Amateur Swimming Club will compete in the annual contest with the members of the Mount Eden Club at the carnival in the Mount Eden Baths next Saturday night. The races between the two clubs invariably cause exciting competition, particularly Ibe 333 1-3 vards challenge relay for the McSkimming Cup. The chief of the supporting events will be the 150 yards ladies' championship of Auckland, in which Misses M. Leydon and X. Griffin will be among (lie contestants. Auckland's outstanding swii'jmers will be seen in the 100 yards and 220 yards open handicaps, the ladies' handicap, and the hreaststroke and backstroke races. Another popular event will bo the diving competition. TiOrna Smith. Junior girls: Nelma Bakalicji; runner-up. Gladys Cronin. Senior boys: Nclsotl Bagnall; runner-up, Bronson Smyth. Junior boys: Brian 11inlon; runner-up. Warwick Revell.
