annual begatta PONSONBY CLUB'S EVENTS SMALL BOATS POPULAR Tho Ponsonby Cruising Club lipid its nnnunl regatta on Saturday afternoon. Record entries were received and, favoured by pertect Xventlier conditions, tlie fixture was very successful. A .fresh breeze varying from south-east to south prevailed/during the afternoon, enabling all the boats to finish early. The motor-vessel Rahiri, Captain •!. McTCinnoti, was flagship, and was moored ofF St. Mary's hoatharbour, all races starting and finishing between the boatharbour wall and the Rahiri. Ihe commodore, Mr. J. J. Mack ay, received the visitors on the flagship, and refreshments were provided by the ladies committee. The most important race ior small boats was for the Hewson Memorial trophy, which was won by Jo Utu (class Z), owned and sailed by Roy Mathcson. . A special race for M class boats, arranged I ( y (lu- Jlerne Bay Junior Yacht Club, for a cash prize of I's donated by Mr. .1. S. Payne, was sailed in conjunction with the regatta. For Ibis event all boats were balloted for, each skipper and crew sailing another boat. Mutual handicaps were decided upon. Tho winner was Marita, sailed by ( . M. Dennes, owner of Manenc. Manoa, sailed by N. J. Tutlersfield, was second, and Moerangi (K. \j. Stewart) (bird. Tho Sanders Cup winner, Caress, W. Rogers, won the race for class X and also the championship flag. The officials in charge of the racing were: Messrs. J. J. Macka.v, E. Shannon, H. Claridgo, C. Robertson and J. Lobley.

Keel Yachts The race for keel yachts brought out seven competitors, which were led over the line by Mouicre, with lvotare and Dolphin handy. Kotarc soon took the lead, but later was passed by the new bout, Gypsy, which was first home. A Good Start The start of the race for class V was a feature of the day. Twenty-three boats were waiting for gunfire and when the signal to start was given the fleet moved off together, liiityaiia, Mora-Awel, Charinaine, Marlina, Tnkiiiu, Jeanette and Arahi were first to show up, but when the line was cleared Takina went into the lead, followed by Kiatere, with Arahi, Jeunette and Matara in close attendance. . The special race for clues M brought out seven competitors which were sent away to a pood start at 3.10 p.m. Manenc crossed the fine first, closely followed by Memerus, Moerangi, Maroro, Marti,a Mawhiti and Manoa. All boats carried different skippers and crews and the race proved very interesting. MuriUi took the lead shortly after the start and was never beaded. Next to her came Moeriuigi, with Maneno a close third.
