DIAMOND JUBILEE
PUKEKOHE"EAST SCHOOL [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE. Sunday • The diamond jubilee of the Pukekohe East School was celebrated by a reunion of former pupils at the weekend. The assembly took place yesterday at the Pukekohe East Church, which had served for a school in the years from 1863 to 1880. The ex-pupils then marched to the school grounds. The head teacher, Mr. L. J. Burke, called over again all the school rolls, and many former pupils answered to their names. Speakers included Mr. W. J. D. Sharp, of Bamarama, who was chairman of the reunion committee, Mr. J. E. Elliott, of the Education Board, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., and Mr. J. W. Robinson, chairman of the school committee. A presentation was made to Mr. Alexander McDonald, who went to school in the church about 1865 and was the oldest ex-pupil present. Miss M. Turbott, of Pukekohe, was the oldest lady ex-pupil in the gathering, she having attended school in the church in 1876. The celebrations concluded this afternoon with a combined thanksgiving service in the Pukekohe East Hall.
