A tropical cyclone appears to be forming between New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. Winds. —Light to moderate and variable in-tfhe north, fresh to strong: northwesterlies at first in central districts and ; moderate to fresh south-westerlies in the south, but with southerly directions later becoming more general. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Rough in the South Taranaki Bight and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, but later decreasing; elsewhere slight to moderate. Kasteru Tasman Sea: Moderate variable winds, but a change to iresh southerlies ,advancing from the west across the southern portion; seas rather rough in the south, moderate elsewhere. Weather. —Mainly fair to cloudy. Scattered rains, however, in western and southern districts of the South Island and unsettled conditions developing later in North Auckland.
