SCANDINAVIAN WOMEN
ADMINISTRATIVE WORK COMMISSIONER OF RAILWAYS One of the foremost women in Denmark is Miss Anna Vestorgaard, who is the Sub-Commissioner of Railways in that country and will probably be appointed chief commissioner shortly. Mi.ss Vestorgaard began her career as a shunter, later became a stationmaster and was finally appointed to an administrative position, which she filled so well that she was made sub-commis-sioner. *
Another prominent woman in a Scandinavian country is in charge of the building of the Karolinska Hospital Institute and has also been appointed the superintendent of the institute. She is the dean of the faculty of medicine in Stockholm. There are many women judges and magistrates in Denmark and Sweden, and all the women win their positions in ecpial open competition with men. They are appointed on their merits.
