STOCK SALES

WESTFIEII) QUOTATIONS AN EASING IN VALUES DAIRY COWS REALISE £l3 There was ;i weakening of values at the "Westlield weekly .stock sale yesterday and hotli top and average prices showed a decline over the high rates of the last two weeks. The yanlings in the store and dairy sections were well up to average. There were fewer outstanding <j utility cows and heifers in the dairy pens and the demand was less (inn and sustained than recently. The best realisations were Ll-'i ior Shorthorn cows in milk and .L'l'2 for Holstein heilers close to profit. .Jerseys made up to .til los and ail those values were front L'Os to l'os lower than late rates. Prices were, however, well above the average of the past six months. In the store section the demand was fair and prices were fully maintained in most lines. Potter bulls were scarcer and the heaviest ol' those offering realised £lO. The quotations were as follows:

FEED ABUNDANT GROWTH IN WAIKATO herds milking well MARKETS GENERALLY FIRM Although very heavy rain fell at the week-end, compared with other districts the Waikato suilered little damago from the recent storms. Letter weather has prevailed this week and there is still an abundance ol iced, with tho, result that, dairy cows are milking exceptionally well lor the time of the year.

Full average entries of most classes of stork are coming forward, and the market has remained firm for practically all classes. Another large yarding of East Coast and .southern breeding ewes was penned at the ,\lorrinsville centre last Friday. Competition tor good quality ewes was steady throughout and prices showed an improvement on the lower rates ruling at the previous sale. Two-tooth ewes also sold much more readily than at the previous offering. The yarding of store lambs met a keen demand and here again prices advanced.

At tin; second Hamilton Komney nun fair, held at. Clatidelands, about 1000 rums cam.' forward. Competition for good quality pens was steady throughout and a successful sale resulted. As at other fairs poor quality oilerings were hard to quit, except at low bids. .Moderate yardings of boner cows and potter bulls continue to meet a ready sale at. linn to slightly improved rates. Conditions in the separate sections are: BEEF Values for fat cattle have been fully firm to a shade better at the main sales this week. At the central yards on Tuesday ot beef was penned in full average numbers, and included a good proportion of wellfinished steers. The demand was better than at the previous sale and, if anything, prices wero a shade firmer.. A slightly larger yarding of cows and heifers also met a steady demand and values in this section remained fully firm, with some pens showing a slight improvement. Heavy prime steers made ,fl'_' 10s to .€ 1:! l'Js rid; prime. I'll to C I'J ss; light, to CIO 10s; extra prime young cows and heifers, .CO to £'.) IHs; prime, i' 7 JOs to IOs; lighter, i:(i to 17.

MUTTON The market for f;il sheep has been fairly buoyant this week and the slight setback in prices at the central yards last week has been fully recovered. A full yarding was offered at Ihe Frankton auction on Tuesday, including a larger proportion of prime ewes than at the previous sale. On (he whole the quality of the wethers submitted was not up to the usual standard, but prices for wellfinished lines showed an improvement on previous sale rates. An average yarding of fat lambs sold at unchanged rates. Heavy fat wethers made 'J'is to 27s lid; prime. Baconers continuo to meet a ready sale and, although the fop price for baconers was not as high as at lhe previous sale, this was probably due to the fact that southern buyers were unable to operate owing to the railway stoppage. Light baconers and heavy porkers sold at unchanged rates. The market for stores and weaners, which has held up well this year, is inclined to ease. Baconers sold from •CM 5s to CI 7s; heavy porkers and butter milk pigs, ,C2 17s to I'.'t Is; medium porkers. £*2 J2s to .['2 His: light, £2 5s to A2 10s.

The entry in the dairy section was small. The top price was l.'l'/i guineas, obtained for a choice pedigree Jersey heifer. A good yarding of beef cattle and a medium offering of store and boner cows came forward, and sold to keen competition at late values. An average yarding of pigs was received. Fat pigs were iu good demand at ruling rates, while store and weaner pigs sold freely.
