BORN IN LEAP YEAR
AUCKLANDERS' PARTY To mark their first birthday in four years, throe Aucklnnders who were born on February 29 in leap year held a birthday party in a city tearoom. They wen? Messrs. E. W. Alison, celebrating his 21st birthday in 88 years. W. Pavitt, for whom it was his 17th birthday in 72 years, and L. J. Minogue, who reached the mature number of 10 birthdays in 44 years. Each has missed one birthday because the vagaries of the calendar deprived them of one at the end of the last century. Mr. Alison was also welcomed at another birthday celebration, when his fellow directors of Taupiri Coal Mines, Limited, presented him with R silver tray and a water jug and glasses. Mr. A. J. Parker made the presentation and referred to Mr. Alison's long association with the company, of which ho has been chairman for the past 40 venrs.
