HUTS MEAN TO THE MEN IN CAMP % Somewhere to go, for recreation * . . somewhere away from the rigid discipline of military life • . . somewhere to sit, to write, to play games, to hold a sing-song . . somewhere, in ; every camp, with a touch of home! That's what a S.A. or Y.M.C.A. hut means to the men on service. Usually it's the only place where they can read in comfort, or where concerts, cinema shows and other entertainments can be held. It is the service man's social headquarters—and often his religious headquarters too,'for it is available for Church Services of all denomina- ' • V •' ' ' 1 »'• • tions. / . - ; ' ASK ANY RETURNED MAN Ask any -man who served in the last war what the Y.M.C.'A. —Salvation Army service meant to the men in camp, in the troopships, in the line! "As important as food" in how one old digger describe* it. "I have passed on the word to my boy in the 2nd N.Z.E.F." he said, "that he will find the Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A. his best fiiends." In the last war the; people of New Zealand generously contributed £565,000 for Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army work among the forces at home and abroad. To-day's need is just as urgent. , s 9 I 'k a TO PROVIDE RECREATION HUTS FOR N.Z. FIGHTING MEN AT HOME AND OVERSEAS As in the last war, the men of the fighting forces are counting on the help of the public to provide huts and facilities for recreation in the camps, barracks, aerodromes and training centres at home and overseas. And, as in the last war, the military authorities have entrusted the Salvation Army and the Y.M.C.A. with the task of operating and organising this vitally important work. Many huts and ciubrooms—where the boys can spend their leisure, write their letters, attend sing-songs and concerts —have already been built at camps and aerodromes. Trained personnel, with generous supplies and equipment, were available for the very first overseas draft. But every day —every hour—as New Zealand's forces grow in number—more and more huts are urgently needed for both home and overseas service. They cannot be built and staffed without money. £IOO,OOO is wanted and it is wanted NOW. To raise this money a FIGHTING SERVICES WELFARE FUND has been launched—a joint appeal by the Y.M.C.A. and The Salvation Army under the National Patriotic Fund. Never was money wanted more quickly. Never was money wanted for a finer cause* The boys are looking to yciu —back them up by giving generously and giving NOW I, The Fighting Services Welfare Appeal is a joint appeal by the Y.M.C.A. and the Salviation Army for funds needed desperately urgently to provide huts and recreational facilities for New Zealand boys in all the fighting services, here and overseas. • , . Your donation to this appeal will help the boys however far from home they may travel—* in camps, aerodromes, training centres throughout the Dominion; in the troopships; in bases abroad; and behind the very battle lines. The Fighting Services Welfare Appeal is the appeal authorised specifically for this purpose. It will benefit every boy everywhere —from the day he enters camp to the hour of his discharge. Donations 'received will be devoted entirely to' the Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A. to be used by them for the, welfare of New Zealand's fighting men. EVERY PENNY WILL BE SPENT FOR THE GOOD OF THE BOYS!
