THEFT OF HANDBAG
MAORI IMPRISONED Two cliaYges of stealing handbags from a dance-hall on the night of February 21 were preferred against a Maori. David Carroll, aged 20, labourer (Mr. Noble), in the Police Court before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., yesterday. Accused pleaded not guilty to both charges. The first (charge of stealing a handbag valued at 10s was dismissed, the magistrate stating there was not sufficient evidence to convict. On the second charge of the theft of a handbag valued at £1 5s 6d, accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
