THEFT OF CHEQUE
ADMISSION BY SALESMAN The theft from an insurance company of a cheque valued at £l3 was admitted by Mervyn Matthew Rowe, aged 20, a former insurance salesman, in the Police Court, before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., yesterday. Detoctive-Sergoant McHugh said accused had b'ien an insurance agent in Thames. An old lady had complained to his office, the Mutual Life and Citizens' Assurance Company., that after the death of her husband she had made a claim on the company, but did not receive the money. It was later found that accused had cashed the company's cheque, forging it in the lady's name to obtain the money. He had not been in trouble before.
Accused, who appeared in Court in uniform, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. .
