LONG STAY ON ICE
ANTARCTIC PARTY BYRD LEAVES FOR NEW BASE (Received February 6, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Feb. 5 In a radio message from the Antarctic Rear-Admiral Byrd says he left Little America on board the Bear of Oakland to establish a new base on the western side, of the Ross Barrier. Thirty-three members of the party remained. They will be stranded on the ice for 14 months.
