THE CENTENNIAL
MODIFIED DECORATIONS government buildings PREPARATIONS COMPLETED Preparation of centennial decorations 011 the facades of the Chief Post Office and the Government buildings in Customs Street West was practically completed yesterday. Flags of various nations were then hung from their standards. The decorations are on a less elaborate scale than was originally planned. The feature of an illuminated centennial design has been retained. This is on the facade of the Chief Post Office, and at midnight on New Year's Eve it will be illuminated, simultaneously with similar signs in the other chief centres, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, who will perform the ceremony in Wellington. The facade of the post office will be floodlit at night by means of lamps placed on the top of pylons erected immediately in front on the footway, while lamps from the roof of a building opposite will project their beams on the front of the Customs Street Government building.
