Picture Titles
FEWER CHANGES PROBABLE One result of wartime economies in the studios may be the abolition of confusing title changes. _ Producers, desperately looking round for dead wood to axe, have discovered that constant changing of titles while films are in production not only irritates the filmgoer, but costs big money —in some cases as much as £IO,OOO. The money is represented by wasted publicity effort, printing and advertising. Now the film producers are beginning to wonder if it would not be cheaper to give the problem of the title a little more thought before the film goes on to the studio floor. Most changed title of 1939 is probably the new Madeleine Carroll opus. It started as "Free Women." After a few weeks it was changed to "Are Husbands Necessary?" Miss Carroll, about to jdivorce Captain Philip Astley, objected on the grounds that the title was likely to be embarrassing to her, and it became "My Love For Yours." That lasted exactly four days, and for all of 24 hours, the production was known as "It Happens to Women." L<'or a while it reverted to "My Love For Yours." And now it is being released as "Honeymoon in Bali."
