GLEN AFTON TRAGEDY

ROYAL COMMISSION •COMMENCEMENT ON MONDAY Jkrom our own coitiikspondknt] HUNTLY, Thursday The Royal Commission which has beeng appointed to inquire into the Glen Alton colliery tragedy on September 2*l, when 11 men lost their lives, will commence its sitting at the Uuntly Town Hall on Monday. The personnel of the commission will be as follows Messrs. S. li. Paterson, S.M. (Hamilton), who will preside, J. C. Brown (Westport), .1. Dowgray (Granity), T. 0. Bishop (Wellington) and A. McLagan. Mr. .T. C. Taylor, of trie Crown Law Oflice, will watch proceedings for the Mines Department, while Mr. A. Tv. North, of Auckland, will appear for Glen Alton Collieries. Limited, the owners of the mine. Mr. J. I'\ Strang, Hamilton, will represent Mr. Peter Hunter, the mine superintendent. Mr. A. Sutherland, of Wellington, will act as secretary, lie. is at present in Hamilton and is making preliminary arrangements for the sitting. The commission will arrange the procedure on the opening day, and an inspection of the mine will probably be made. The taking of evidence may commence on Monday afternoon. Sitting from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, after the opening day, the commission is expected to be occupied for several days, ft lias been asked to report to the Governor-General hv December 8.
