IMPROVEMENTS TO SYSTEM AUCKLAND TO HAMILTON Recent improvements to the telegraph system at Auckland and Hamilton, where the latest type of multichannel voice-frequency telegraph equipment has been installed, were mentioned yesterday by the PostmasterGeneral, the Hon. F. Jones. _ "The Auckland-Hamilton system provides 18 duplex telegraph circuits and these aro obtained over one pair of wires which, in addition, gives three telephone speech circuits," the Minister said. ".At Hamilton repeaters have been provided for extending the telegraph links to stations in the King Country, Waikato and East Coast districts. "The introduction of this particular system is an excellent example of the economic co-ordination which is taking place between the telegraph and telephone services to the mutual improvement of both. The arrangement has released a number of single telegraph lines, which are being used for the creation of additional toll circuits. There is in operation also at Auckland a sixchannel voice-frequency telegraph system to Wellington with the result that most of the important telegraph outlets to and from Auckland aro now voice-frequency working." The Minister pointed out that, as compared with the old method of aerial line working, the now system provided greater stability generally. Already, he said, there had been a noticeable improvement in working conditions.
