LOSS ON ENGLISH TOUR NET TOTAL OF NEARLY £4OOO Presented to tho meeting of the council of management of the New Zealand Itugby League last evening, the audited balancesheet of the recently cancelled English tour disclosed a net loss of £3827 7s Ud, and provided for a sum of £322 12s 3d being distributed among investors of Kiwi Tours, bondholders in tho venture. The travelling expenses, including the cost of assembling the team, and other tour commitments totalled £4->OO 4s sd, revenue being the share of two gates, at St. Helens and Dcwsbury respectively, amounting to £438 10s. Taking into consideration the position revealed and the effect on the council's general financial position, the president, Mr J. A. Redwood, claimed that, having regard to all the unfortunate circumstances, the outcome could be regarded as highly satisfactory. The deficit was much less than that formerly anticipated. This was as regrettable as it was unavoidable, but the team was a credit to New Zc^'he'balance-sheet was adopted. Tho matter of further reimbursing the bondholders was subsequently discussed in committee, and a proposal icferred to a special committeo-for a No°orhcial communication having been yet received from Australia for a New Zealand team to tour there next year, the chairman said tho matter would receivo consideration in due course. Following amendments suggested by affiliated leagues, tho draft constitution and rules were' further revised for final publication. . Mr. Redwood thanked the members for their co-operation during an unusual year of progressive activity, curbed only by the outbreak of the war. It could be said that what the game might have lost in honour and glorv and in finance, it had gained m prestige. He urged a continuation of unremitting effort, and felt sure that next year would be bright with its compensations. He enumerated various areas he had in mind for the benefit of the code nationally.
