THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE HEAVY VOLUME OF BUSINESS A burst of investment activity resulted in turnover on the Auckland Stock Exchange -yesterday being of heavy proportions. Values generally were inclined to be steadier after the recent strong advance. Gilt-edged securities changed hands freely, some issues showing good rises. Banks again were in keen demand, and Unions were lifted on sale. Insurances maintained their strength. Leading breweries were active at late rates. Front-rank Australian , industrials showed some reaction to the recent sharp advance, but the recession was slight. The improvement in some of the Dominion issues was reflected in a transfer of New Zealand Drug.
