"THE LAMP"

MR. F. E. MILLS YOUNG "The Lamp." by F. E. Mills Young, is a novel which can be commended without reservation. The author writes of an Englishman who goes out to South Africa* and gets involved in native problems. There is a love story, it is true, but there is also Lucas, the native, who in his own way fights for his people and who, standing as he does for a type, is a character who lives.

The Dutch farmers and those who live in the great towns and on the veldt all come into contact with Fairleigh, the Englishman, and while novels with a purpose are often dull, "Tho Lamp" certainly does not come under this category. "The Lamp," by F. E. Mills Young. (Hodder and Stoughton.)
