CENTENNIAL FEATURE PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED ENTRIES FOR COMPETITIONS Entries for the tests for choirs of mixed voices and string quartets, to bo held in the Town Hall concert chamber on April 13 as part of the Centennial music festival programme, will now be received by the honorary secretary of tho fine arts sub-committee of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Committee, Air. T. W. AI. Ashby. will close on February 28. The test pieces for choirs, limited to 40 mixed voices, aro "Alusic AYhen Soft Voices Dio" (A. Tyrer), and "Diaphenia" (Stanford). For string quartets, the test pieces will be the first movement, quartet in D Major, "The Lark" (Havdn), and the first movement, quartet in A Alinor, Op. 51 (Brahms). The winning choir and string quartet will compete in a final Dominion competition to bo held in Wellington. . , , The Centennial music festival week will open on Alav 10 with a performance of "Faust," which will be continued on the following day. This performance will be sponsored by the Government to the extent of providing the principal artists; the scenery and costumes. -Ancklandcrs will provide a chorus of 40 voices. Amo no- the other features will be the recital bv tho Auckland Symphony Orchestra* on Alav 16, and a concert by the Auckland Chamber Alusic Society on the following day. No programme has vet been arranged for the symphony concert. The other combinations to which dates have been allotted arc the Students' Choir, the Roynl Auckland Choir, tho Dorian Choir, and the Auckland Choral Society. The festival will close with the combined choirs evening on Sunday, Alav 19.
