DEATH AT 105 YEARS

0 POT IKI MAORI WOMAN [ItV TELEGRAPH—OWN* CORRESPONDENT] OP OT IK I, Friday The death has occurred of Mrs. Ngarori Delamere, .aged 105, of tho Whanau Apanui tribe, Opotiki. The funeral took place at Whitinnga, where there was a large attendance of Maoris and Europeans. The Rev. Paul Delamere, son of Mrs. Dclamore, delivered an address. Sir Apirana Ngata was present at the tangi. The name of Whanau Apanui, means children of Apanui, and Mrs. Delamere's ancestry could be traced on one side in a direct line to the great Apanui, and on the other side to the Whakatohea tribe. She had in her own right the large greenstone mere which belonged to and was used by Apanui himself.' After the historic war between the Ngata i (Torero) Maoris and her people, she married Mr. Eru Delamere, and they were among the pioneers who carved their way along tno coast to form new pas and prepare new battlements. Mrs. Delamere is survived by two daughters and four sons.
