WIDE SCOPE OF SERVICE DISTRICT APPEAL TO-DAY _ The annual appeal for funds for the St. John Ambulance organisation is to be made in all parts of the Auckland district to-day. Sue!, efforts made bv local areas have always met with a ready response from the public, and it is anticipated this year that, with the widened scope of operations brought about by the war and the thousands of students actively interested in the work, the district appeal will bring at least an equally generous acknowledgment i o-day. Apart from the service given |»v its 25 ambulance units. 11 of then] in Auckland City, the St. .John Ambulance Association holds classes in first aid, home nursing, precautionary war measures and give.s an excellent bloodtransfusion service. Four district nurses are in daily attendance upon the sick and needy of Auckland. A successful appeal for funds will help the association to continue its services, which are given every day throughout the yea r. A donation of £lO 10s to the funds of the St. John Ambulance Association was made by the City Council last night.

Thursday The achievement of the cadet nursing division of the Pukekohe branch of the St John Ambulance Rrigade iu qualifying for 2.'l Grand I'rior's badges this year was a record for the Dominion, said Mr. F. 10. Scliofield, Auckland district officer in charge of St. John Cadets, to-day, in presenting the badges to the girls. The ceremony took place at the Pukekohe Technical High School at a parade of 10 members of the Cadet Nursing Division and 22 boy cadets. Mrs. E. McDowell. Lady Corps Officer supervising cadets, also congratulated the division and its superintendent. Mrs. D. Walsham, on its fine achievement. She said an officer of the brigade who had recently arrived from England had told her that the most badges from the Grand Prior she had ever heard of any division in England receiving in one year was seven. The Grand Prior of the Order is the Duke of Conuaught. who provides the Grand Prior hades at his own expense They are awarded to cadets who have passed examinations in 12 subjects additional to the ordinary subjects,
