MINING LICENCES
FORFEITURE DECREED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Thursday A plaint claiming forfeiture of mineral licences came before Mr. Raymond Ferner. S.M., in tlio Warden's Court this morning. Jnnifs Arnistcnd and William .Stanlev Miller /Mr, L. T. I'ickmerc) asked that licences held liy Mercury Mines (N.Z.), Limited, ho forfeited, as the company had failed to curry out work on property in the I'lihipuhi mining district, near Whakapara. as required under the Mining Act. The licences were granted for the mining of cinnabar, the ore from which mercury is obtained. The warden stated that the Crown had applied for an adjournment. As no grounds had been stated, however, he decreed that the licences at present held by the company should no forfeited. Costs wore allowed plaintiffs.
