PROFESSIONAL BOXING
SLOANE BEATS CALTAUX [BY TKIjEGK.WII—I'RKSS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday In the host, professional boxing match seen in Wellington this year Syd Sloane (Australia) outpointed Vic Cnlt.nux (Auckland), over 12 rounds, tonight. It was a case of a boxer boating a tighter. Only nimble footwork and clever bobbing and weaving enabled the Australian to weather several of the' Aucklander's furious attacks. There was intense excitement in the lltli round, when Caltaux dropped his man for a count of nine. No .sooner had the Australian resumed his feet than a two-handed assault had Sloane again on the canvas but the gong sounded on the count of five. The verdict .for Sloane met with some dissent, but clever boxing earned him a narrow victory.
