raid in moselle sector FRENCH CAPTURE NEW MACHINLGUN By Telegiaph—Press Association —Copyright •; (Received October 25, 10.20 p.m.) LONDON, Oct, 25 Raids and ambushes occurred in several parts of the Front yesterday, when action sporadically livened up, stated a French communique. Last night was again quiet. There was only patrol and aerial activity west of the Saar. Ceaseless rain and deepening mud have confined activities to local intensification of the fighting after the week- end lull. The French yesterday carried cut a successful raid in the East Moselle sector. They took prisoners and a new machine-gun, which experts are examining. \ The French retail? certain footholds on German soil, where they are of military importance. The Germans were mainly active yesterday West of Forbach, where they attacked with hand grenades Frenchmen who are holding a German village, but the attackers recoiled under an artillery barrage and machine-gun fire. Reuter's correspondent with the British forces in France says a few dozen men have died in the British zone during the war. Most of them were victims of road accidents. ■
