""M" iKH 111 HAMILTON. 1 M I^l ■jSj) m I mi m CLAUDELANDS EXHIBITION WIDE VARIETY OF EVENTS Although organised under the shadow of war, the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Centennial Show, to be held at Claudelands on Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28, promises to be a highly successful fixture. Except for the beef and lamb export classes, which are affected by overseas conditions and the war, the entries are exceptionally good and compare favourably with those received for any previous exhibition staged by the Association except with respect to the Royal Show last year. Excellent support has been given to the hunting classes, which will form an important feature of the show. There are 25 entries in the Dominion Centennial Jumping Competition, including a number from Palmerston North, Hawera and Opotiki, as well as many well known Waikato hunters. The Association has allotted £75 in prize-money to this event, and a high standard of jumping may be expected. Special encouragement has been given this year to juvenile equestrians, and apart from the numerous children's pony events, prize-money totalling £35 has been provided for the Dominion Centennial Pony Hunter event. The entries total 22, and as the clajss has attracted a high class of entry, the event should be an interesting one. Variety is the keynote of the programme, and following the Grand Parade of the prize-winning stock—a most spectacular event in itself two trotting events will be staged. No fewer than 21 acceptances have been received for the first event, and I 5 for the scond. The pedigree dairy cattle section is very strong, I 1 0 entries having been received for the Jersey classes, and 75 for the Ayrshire classes. Milking Shorthorns and Friesians will also be represented by good entries. A special effort has been made this year to strengthen the Ayrshire section, support in the way of trophies and prize-money having been received from the Ayrshire Breeders' Society. Over 800 entries have been received for the fat lamb classes, and although this section is not as strong as usual, keen competition will be a feature of the classes. A special judging competition has been provided for members of young farmers' clubs, who will be invited to test their skill in assessing the points of bulls and boars which will be submitted to their judgment. Dog trials interest many people, and those included in the programme should attract a good deal of attention. Comparatively few people have seen clay-bird shooting, and an opportunity of seeing some of the best marksmen in the district will be afforded show patrons. The Hamilton Kennel Club will hold its annual exhibition in connection with the show, and strong competition in a wide variety of dog classes will be provided.
