MR. H. S. H. WHITCOMBE . MEMBER OF WELL-KNOWN FIRM The death'occurred suddenly;[yesterday morning' of ZSTr. Hugh Somerset Hawkes Whiteombe, aged 49. manner, of the Auckland branch of and Tombs, Limited, at his residence. Clifton Road, Takapuna. Mr..Whitcombe was a son of Mr. George Hawkes Whitcombe, one of .the founders of thefirm, which was established in Christchurch in 18S0. \ .- Mr. Whitcombe, who was well known throughout New Zealand, was very popular in business circles in the cHr. He took no active part in public lite, but was a member of the Auckland Club for many years.. His principal ■hobby was gardening, and he was an authority on flowers. Formerly .manager- of the Dunedin branch of tjUp company, Mr. served in the Great War with the Zealand Expeditionary Force. After his return he was appointed manager# the Auckland branch, and he had lived here since then, with the exception of a brief in Wellington. He is survived by his wife- and a daughter, Miss' Noel Whitcombo. ;
