NO CARGO LOADED

INTER-ISLAND STEAMER DISPUTE AT LYTTELTON RAILWAY WATERSIDERS [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHTJRCH, Tuesday Because of a dispute between the Railway Department and waterside workers employed by the department regarding the working of the steamer express Ranga'tira at Lyttelton to-day, no cargo was loaded or unloaded from the ship. The vessel was worked on the railway side by permanent railwaymen from 7 a.m. until S a.m. to-day, which is claimed to be the usual practice after a holiday. Casual watersiders were engaged to work from 8 a.m., but it" is alleged that they declined to work on the grounds that they should have been engaged on Saturday for the 7 a.m. start on Tuesday. Ships' watersiders were also engaged this morning, but as the cargo could not be handled without the railway watersiders the former were discharged at mid-day. The dispute was then referred to headquarters at Wellington. Because of the holiday on Monday, the Ranga'tira had very little cargo for discharge, but had a fairly large quantity to load for Wellington. This cargo remained in trucks on the wharf.
