MINISTER AT RUAKUBA PROGRESS OF LABORATORIES FACIAL ECZEMA EXPERIMENTS [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday An assurance /was given by the contractor, Mr. E. G. Paterson. of Hamilton. to tlio Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, at Kuakura to-day, that the new building bousing the laboratories and offices connected with the .Kuakura experimental re-' .search station would be completed this week. The construction of the building has been proceeding for some months and its completion has been dolayed. Consisting of two wings, one ol which is 34ft. wide and 72ft. deep; and tbe other 2Gl't. wide and 108 ft. deep, the building contains six laboratories and .1 «_> t)llices, Lt is a onestorey structure of timber, and Jills an important part of the scheme to make Kuakura the chief agricultural research station for tbe Auckland Province. Including chemists, veterinarians and oilier research workers, clerks, farm supervisors, farm labourers and domestics, there are G9 people employed on the farm and dwellings and in the laboratories and offices. The Minister, who was accompanied by Mr. A. M. Cockayne, DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, and Mr. P. W. Small field, director of tbe Kuakura Research Station, inspected experimental grass, plots at Karamu and Kuakura, and reports wore received from experimental officers concerning the researches that were being made relating to facial eczema. The experiments were commenced 18 months ago following a serious outbreak of the disease among the sheep and dairy cc/ws of the Waikato. The Minister said he was not in a position to make a statement regarding the results of the experiments at the present stage.
