For Little Poets
The sun Was shining brightly j As I Wandered through the wood, And all the birds Were singing Just as sweetly as they could. The linnet, thrush and blackbird Were bursting with their song; And an owl flew by with whirring Wings As I wandered on and on. Two magpies chattered gaily, While the skylark in the blue Trilled her song of happiness, As up and up she flew. And as I homeward turned, My heart felt light and free; And all the World was echoing The birds' sweet melody. —Original by Betty Appleyard (15). t* t r\rt T Tr\
LITTLE WHITE LADY A little white lady dances at night, - ' I can see her in the bright moonlight; All night long she gracefully dances; Backward and forward, brightly she prances. I watch her through ihc window-pane, Dancing, dancing above the lane; And when in the morn/':. 4 ' I awake, She's nowhere to be seen. She's only an apple-blossom— > Or perhaps a dream. —Original by Marie Vickerraan (9).
