CAR CONVERSION

FORMER NAVAL ENGINEER COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE A former naval engineer, who told the police he left H.MS. Leander and stole a car to travel about New Zealand. because he was "fed up" with his job. appeared in the Police Court yesterday. He was l? rank Ernest Yincent Harris, aged 35 (Mr. Henry), and he pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful car conversion. It was stated that accused was arrested in Wellington on September 25. and tlx; car was recovered. He made a statement that when lie loft his ship on January 31. he drove the car to Tauran'ga. He obtained a set of old number plates, and painted them the colour of the present registration plates, when relieensing was due. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court by Mr. C. R. Orr Walker. S.M., for sentence.
